Sargood Lunch6

On the 7th August, SCI Australia hosted a lunch for government, media and specialist supporters who have played pivotal roles in the development of the project to date.

As well as representatives from the Motor Accidents Authority and the Department of Ageing Disability and HomeCare, the Minister for Disability Service, Kristina Keneally attended.  Media representatives from the Manly Daily, regional radio and Wilkinson Media were also present.

The guest speaker was SCI Australia Ambassador, David Crawford who outlined the impact that a spinal cord injury has had on his life and that of his family following his workplace accident.  The Sargood Centre represents an opportunity for David to have respite in an independent setting to relieve the care load experienced by his family. The information and support that will be available at the centre, would also have prepared his family for his homecoming and the impact it would have on their lives.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

On the 11th March 2007, a Groundbreaking Ceremony was held to officially launch the progress being made towards the development of the Sargood Centre. The ceremony was attended by many of the patrons of the service and local community members as well as regional politicians and representatives from the spinal units.

Guest of honor at the service was Elizabeth Bradshaw, the great granddaughter of Frederick Sargood who was visiting from her home in England. This continues the strong family involvement in the site and the tradition of care for disadvantaged members of the community.
