The Centre
Providing short term accommodation for 18-20 people, the Sargood Centre will allow each individual complete autonomy. Each unit will be self contained with living and meal preparation areas as well as sleeping and bathroom spaces. Incorporated into the site will be external entertainment and gathering spaces as well as direct access to the local community. By combining living, meeting, socializing and training spaces, the Sargood Centre will allow people with a spinal cord injury to utilize their stay in a manner unavailable in a traditional rehabilitation setting.
The design incorporates the latest universal design principles as well as being environmentally innovative. The Sargood Centre building will act as a model of accessible housing and showcase real possibilities for all public and private housing providers. Architects, designers and town planners will be able to examine the practicality and functionality of accessible design elements.
The Sargood Centre will continue to present opportunities to work in collaboration with Councils to incorporate elements of accessibility throughout the region for the benefit of all the community.
